Technology Hub
In January 2007, 365 Main Inc. announced acquisition of a new 111,000 square-foot data center in the fiber-rich district near Jack London Square. The developer and operator of the world’s finest data centers, 365 Main management cited existing demand, existing tenants, good location and well-defined pipeline as some of the reasons they selected Oakland. Indeed, Tier 1 Research ranks Northern California as one of the nation’s tightest markets for high-end data center space. Oakland is one of the top 20 U.S. cities in terms of high tech employment with nearly 67,000 technology jobs – even more jobs than neighboring San Francisco. Home to over 300 technology related firms, Oakland boasts an extensive underground fiber-optic cable network and is a regional telecommunications hub.
