Key Development Areas: Oakland Army Base
The
City of Oakland is taking action to transform the Oakland
Army Base from a former military installation to a waterfront redevelopment
business opportunity. This extraordinary site on Oakland’s estuary
is immediately south of the eastern end of the Bay Bridge and ready
for conversion to private use. On August 6, 2003, the Oakland Base Reuse Authority, on behalf of the Oakland Redevelopment Agency, and the Port of Oakland cumulatively took title of approximately 364 acres of Oakland Army Base property from the United States government. In 2006, each party will be able to start development of their respective development areas. OBRA will transfer its property to the Oakland Redevelopment Agency, which will begin development under a master developer. The sustainable land uses
being considered include light industrial, research and development,
hotel, retail, flex-office space, warehousing and distribution, and
public parkland.
- Nine miles from San Francisco, at the east end of the Bay Bridge
- Part of the Oakland Army Base Redevelopment Area
- Unparalleled opportunity: 200-acres for redevelopment
- 35,445 daytime workers
